My question to you all is -- Does anyone know a suitable colour (preferably Humbrol) that these craft were painted? I believe the colour is 'Scout Cruiser Gray', but I would like to know the approximate Humbrol equivelant is that's possible. Also, does anyone know what colour they were painted below the waterline? Thanks in advance, Roger Pearson ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From JFR1945@aol.com Subject 1/350 USS Lexington CV-2 I have a friend in Germany who is building the Tamiya 1350 LEXINGTON (CV-2) as she was in May 1942. He asked three questions I have been unable to answer. 1) Did the external degaussing cable run all the way to the bow, port and starboard? If not, where did it stop? 2) Were there any deck markings? The plan seems to indicate some dashed white lines, but these do not show up in the photos. 3) Is the top platform on the foremast undersized? Thanks, John Reeder ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From SANDYMOOR@aol.com Subject Re Hampton Roads Ironclads Hi George, Unfortunately Battleaxe hasn't done a 1/144 CSS Virginia to go with their USS Monitor. I keep hoping they will. Heres a run down of Virginia and Monitor ironclads that I know of - LoneStar makes resin kits of both in 1/192. Verlinden makes them in resin in 1/200. Many years ago a plastic kit containing both ships was released by Pyro, then under the Life Like name, scale is unkown, but was smaller than the Verlinden offerings. They've long been out of production, but can still be found. Lindberg also released a dual kit (about the size of the Pyro ones) which I've not seen, but I've heard its not the same as the Pyro. Thoroughbred has them in 1/600 in metal. They have also started a "10 mm" (about 1/200) line of resin ironclads. No Virginia and Monitor yet, but they're coming- http//www.thoroughbredmodels.com/ Verlinden's appears to be the best detailed and best cast, but there are some issues with the accuracy of them. Tell your friend that resin is not that hard to work with. It just takes alittle getting use to.
