Shane ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From RCClem@aol.com Subject Re Mauretania in WW2 Pacific ??? My father, who passed away last Veteran's Day, worked on landing craft during 1943-45 in many areas, starting around New Guinea. Between landings, they worked the boats on transferring men and supplies between ships and shore. He also remembered a monster gray passenger liner with riveted hull plates (that played hell on the smaller boats). The word was that it was the Mauretania. A few years ago I also tried to confirm this and got nowhere. There could only be so many such super liners pressed into service. Could it have been the Queen Mary in the Pacific? To an Iowa farm boy, they could have appeared similar. Good Luck, Roger Clemens ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "Gary Mansfield" Subject PAPER SHIPWRIGHT MODELS - HELP Hello all SMML modellers, Yes I agree with David, his paper shipwright site is very, very good (for a one man band its ******* good)!! If I show pictures to people "is it really card?" is a favourite quote! And with some photo-etch they look fantastic! I was making card models; JSC, Modelink, HMV Hamburg etc until I was struck down with this stroke in May 2002. Now can SMML members help me? The problem is holding the ruler, card and knife with only the use of one hand (my left, I was right handed). I need the ideas team of SMML to see want they can come up with. I have seen all the long and varied discussions about every ship, modelling techniques etc know to man, so I am asking for your help now. I do not want to be left with reading my ship books and day time TV! Many thanks, GARY MANSFIELD garynelson.mansfield@tiscali.co.uk (Yes Nelson is my middle name; born 29th September, to a RN Able Seaman what else could he use for a middle name and in a Naval hospital)? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check out the SMML site for the List Rules, Reviews, Articles, Backissues, Member's models & Reference Pictures at http//smmlonline.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Volume
