It is 1/96 scale. I dont think there was much difference between the Australian and British version. << Unfortunately, the Deans Marine HMS Daring is one of the 1930's A to I series of Fleet Destroyers, not one of the 1950's Daring Class. This Radio Control model can be used as a base for any of the A to I class fleet destroyers. I'm thinking of using it to build one of the 'F's - my Dad's old ship - modified to 1943 fit, as she appeared in the North Atlantic from '43 to '44. There seems to be only one picture of her at that time - in Janes ATWFS 1944-45 - heavily censored to remove the Radars, HF/DF and anti-aircraft armament, but it'll have to do. My Dad's memory isn't what it was but he's given me a few clues, such as that she had no pendant number on the side at the time, so he was always being pestered by "What Ship?" signals. I already made one model for him by modifying an Airfix 1700 HMS Hotspur, but its too small for his 80 year old eyesight. Cheers, Frank ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From George H Levine Subject Re PAPER SHIPWRIGHT MODELS - HELP >> I was making card models; JSC, Modelink, HMV Hamburg etc until I was struck down with this stroke in May 2002. Now can SMML members help me? The problem is holding the ruler, card and knife with only the use of one hand (my left, I was right handed). I need the ideas team of SMML to see want they can come up with. I have seen all the long and varied discussions about every ship, modelling techniques etc know to man, so I am asking for your help now. I do not want to be left with reading my ship books and day time TV! << If you have an engineering or inventive inclination you should be able to devise various jigs, fixtures and tools necessary to accomplish each of the tasks required. For instance, clamp the ruler down where required and then you are free to use the knife. You might need to use a different work table to accomplish this. It might take some deliberate thinking about the process so that you take the steps in the best sequence. And it will probably take a little longer to accomplish things until you get used to it. Some decades ago I remember seeing a one armed ship model builder working on the final stages of rigging a small size and beautifully done model of a brig. Yours "Aye" John Lambert ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From Subject hmcs toronto model frigate Hello there I am looking for a kit to make the hmcs toronto frigate. Any idea where I might get one for my father to assemble? thanks. Ann ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From "Andy Airlie" Subject WSW Tanker Dear all, Looking for a bit of help, I've aquired the WSW Tanker and HMS Royal Oak and I'm looking to find out what the tanker is based on and if there are any references to advise on colour schemes, history etc.etc. Both kits are excellent quality and I'd recommend them highly. Cheers, Andy ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From david@dhathaway.freeserve.co.uk Subject Steam trawler drawings update In reference to my request a while ago for plans/drawings of a steam trawler c1910, I came across a good reference to the trawlers built by the Royal Navy during WWI (based on existing commercial designs). There is a description of the vessels, how and where they were built, roles, armaments, etc, as well as GA diagrams of the trawler and drifter types constructed. Fascinating reading. There is enough for my needs and should be of interest if anyone wants to model a WWI armed trawler or drifter. Only thing missing is hull lines and sections - but these should be derivable from a combination of the GA's and later trawler lines.
