The problem is holding the ruler, card and knife with only the use of one hand (my left, I was right handed). I need the ideas team of SMML to see want they can come up with. << Hi Gary, Congratulations on your decision to keep modelling. My brother had a stroke 18 months ago, luckily he was only slightly paralysed on the left side and I have bought a few sailing ships for him to do. He hated not being able to do them at first, I am convinced modelling keeps the mind ticking over and helps with restoring some dexterity, I have experimented with a paper cutter at work. We use a couple of portable machines but the best one for you would be similar to a CARL Heavy-Duty Rotary Trimmer. This cutter using a wheel like a pizza cutter so, as it doesn't it doesn't "guillitine", the card/paper stays firmly locked in place and doesn't slip like an "arm" cutter. I used it one-handed, and not knowing how thick card models are, I used a double-thickness of a model kit box and it cut through with a couple of passes. The only down-side it would need to be clamped or bolted down as it slid around on the bench. I couldn't find a UK distributor on the Internet but to quote from a US Supplier "These heavy duty rotary disk trimmers are the choice for the most demanding projects. Patented rail mechanism holds paper firmly in place to ensure a precise cut. Adjustable magnetic paper gauge holds material on sturdy precision calibrated base. Cuts up to 32 sheets of standard copy paper per cut. Also cuts card stock, black core artist matboard, foamboard and plastic sheets. DC-220 15" Heavy-Duty Rotary Trimmer Approx $US109.95 DC-238 18" Heavy-Duty Rotary Trimmer $US139.95. " Cheers, Steve. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) Subject HMAS Australia Has anyone built a model of this Indefatigable class WW1 Battlecruiser? I am researching the Australia and her sister ship HMS New Zealand and would like to hear from those who are interested in this class of vessel. Regards Gary ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) Subject Re WSW tanker Hello Andy, I have the model of the Tanker in the original package from WSW (former DOC-MODELL) and within was a short description of the ship Tanker Salome Shipyard Ateliers & Chantiers de France SA, Dunkerk construction 1939 propulsion diesel engines type Oiltanker load 13,400 BRT length 167 m width 21,6 m On colour schemes and history of the ship they did not have any informations.
