Huge Range and excelent Service. Regards Phil ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) Subject ReSmithsonian collection of US Maritime Commission ships plans 1939-1970 I have that catalogue, there are several WWII era plans sets in it, such as various versions of Liberty & Victory ships, plus some of the other C, S, P, & T types. Also some post war types. Are you looking for something in particular? My catalogue is about 8 years old, so it may be out of date. Please feel free to email me off line if you want specifics. HTH David ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) Subject Re Smithsonian collection Regarding the Smithsonian collection of US Maritime Commission plans. I believe these cover all of the ship types. I may have a list, but will have to dig for it. A simple letter to the Smithsonian will provide a prompt reply. The collection are builder plans, including hull lines. I have the C1 plans, which have been an excellent source for building model of this ship type. Bill ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) Subject Re Smithsonian collection Guy Number 6 I have both books of Naval and Marine ships plans. What the heck is your email address? Joe Hinds ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) Subject Re Model shops in Melbourne, Australia Hello Ray, I've found the best range of ships to be at Hobby Place at 280-282 Lonsdale Street in the city. Poor customer service, but a huge amount of plastic! Another two worth looking at are Hearn's Hobbies at 295 Flinders Street (downstairs from the street at one end of Flinders Street Station), and Victorian Hobby Centre at 21a Swanston Street (upstairs - just a doorway at street level). These are all in the city and within 10-15 minutes walk of each other. Just yell if you have any more questions. Regards, Adrian Webster ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) Subject Re Melbourne Hobby Shops G'Day Ray, In Melbourne CBD from the Princes Bridge over the Muddy Creek Yarra River go north along Swanton Walk. On the left is the Vic(torian) Hobby Centre (door only just past Golden Arches - go upstairs). Ask for Wayne, Eric, Darryl or Frank. Or, from bridge, turn left (around the Flinders St Railway Station) and walk @ 200mr to Hearns Hobbies (shopfront). It is under the station - down @5 steps). Nunnawadding Hobbies is also good (south on Springvale Road, on left, just short of the railway crossing). It is @ 18 km southeast of the CBD. And Hobby HQ in Thomastown @ 20km north of the CBD. Ask for William (or Bill or Billy). They all do phone/fax prders. There is also PJ's in Moony Ponds, @ 12km North of the CBD. Ask for PJ (who else!!). Check-out an issue, or call the Editor (Frank) of Modelart, Aust (modellers magazine - the shops will have it) for more precise details (eg, phone numbers) and more hobby shops. Or hit the white &/or yellow pages. If you'r in a model club, that your club ID and ask for a discount - it NEVER hurts to ask. I am a customer only of the above shops, and a buyer of the magazine. PS, wear a T-Shirt and carry a jumper, jacket, raincoat & umbrella, and have fun. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) Subject Re HMAS Australia Brett Soden asks "I am trying to deturmine if there is much difference between the Lion and Indifatigable classes." and "I would like to know if there is much difference between the two class so that I could use the shear lines that I have for the Queen Mary for Australia. " According to Conways, HMAS Australia had an overall length of 590 feet. Queen Mary was 703 feet. Lion was 700 feet. Australia had eight 12-inch guns in four turrets one fore, one aft and two en-echelon amidships. All of Queen Mary's four turrets were on the center line with the B turret superimposed on A turret. Q turret was amidships. The main armament was 13.5-inch guns. HMS Invincible was closer in design to Australia than Queen Mary, but was shorter in overall length (567 ft) and had less beam (78 feet versus 85 feet). Marc Flake (anticipating a 1/700 World War I "Indefatigable-class" battlecruiser from Combrig sometime this year) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) Subject RE HMAS Australia To Gary Mansfield, Thanks for the book suggestions,I already John Roberts Battlecruisers but I will get hold of the book by Vince Fazio. Thanks again. Regards Gary McGee ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) Subject RE HMAS Australia Reply to Brett Soden, Which plan do you have of Australia? I may be able to help with the hull lines. Contact me off line Gary McGee E-mail dengar@xtra.co.nz ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10) Subject Re Melbourne Hobby Shops The three city centre hobby shops all have reasonable selections of wooden and plastic ship kits and accessories etc. Hearns, Flinders Street (under the station) across from the end of Elizabeth Street VHC, Victorian Hobby Centre, Swanston Street just up from the station, easy to miss since it only has a single door on the street with stairs up to the shop Hobby Place, Lonsdale Street just down the hill from the Swanston Street intersection I get the impression that for RC models the suburban shops are better, but someone else can tell you about those shops. As for bookshops the best is Hylands, 347 Flinders Lane, really tricky to find since you have to go into an office building and take the lift to the third floor, but then hang on to your wallet... Have a nice time Jeff ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11) Subject Re Smithsonian collection I have the list. It includes the following Liberty ships and types, dry cargo shipps (i.e. CiMAV1), tugs, troopships, tankers, container, survey etc. Some plan stes are TOO detailed and some are very large.. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 12) Subject Type 42 & Apollo Class Hi all, Looking for a set of plans for the HMS York Type 42 Class Batch 3 destroyer, for a friend. I believe Taubman carried them at one time but may stand corrected. Also looking for a set of plans for HMCS Rainbow (Apollo Class protected cruiser 1880s).
