The film is titled Ulysses, and it stars Kirk Douglas who gets the bounce on all the evil suiters in this version by stringing the bow no one else can manage and shooting them with it. Hollywood has no shame, fancy mucking about with Homer and sneaking in some Robin Hood and King Arthur! It was released in 1954 and directed by Mario Camerini, it is actually showing at the British museum as part of a hoplite orgy of films and culture. You may be able to locate it on E Bay or Amazon. Trouble is any search will generate lots of returns for the film of the same name based on the book by James Joyce. The book is one of the first I ever read and fired my interest in the sea, but although I have walked in the shadow of the walls of Troy the only Scylla and Charybidis I saw were frigates! (Not forgetting Achilles, though for some bizarre reason instead of Hector or Cassandra or Agamemnon we have Cleopatra in the same class of ship. Methinks someone did not know their history) What has brought us here will lead us away; our ship sways in the tined harbour water. (Odysseus' Decision) Regards, Mike ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From Lawman555@aol.com Subject Re Ships Plans I was able to order the entire set of microfilm (4 reels) for the 110' wooden SC497 class subchaser. It has been a few years ago; but they were approximately $135.00 for all 4 rolls. Since then I have scanned them into my computer for quick reference. Many of these plans were actual photographs that were then copied to microfilm, so some of the quality is not necessarilly there. Blowing them up too big was also a problem, even though I scanned them at a high resolution. The bottom line is plans are available via the National Archives II in College Park, MD. Good luck. Jim Myers ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "Ken Goldman" Subject Re Odysseus Regarding Hank Chen's question you're probably thinking of "Ulysses" starring Kirk Douglas. Ken Goldman author USS CHARLES CARROLL APA 28 an amphibious history of World War II ISBN 1-4120-2114-6 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From "Victor Prall" Subject Going to Atlanta I live in Atlanta, and it would be so easy to attend. For me it's a ten minute drive from my house. There is, however a small problem. The IPMS meeting coincides with my son's wedding in Buffalo, NY. What choice would you make, and why? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From JRKutina@webtv.net (John Kutina) Subject KIROTV.com - Fishing Boat Makes Mystery Catch http//www.kirotv.com/print/4715650/detail.html Regards, John Kutina ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From MPMenache@aol.com Subject Re Odysseus I think the movie you refer to is" Jason and the Argonauts" Hope this helps. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check out the SMML site for the List Rules, Reviews, Articles, Backissues, Member's models & Reference Pictures at http//smmlonline.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Volume
