I'm planning to make one the USS Icefish, the other USS Tench. I've got a fair amount of research material. I've got the resin coversion sets for the sails, the wood decks and the photo-etch brass detail sets from Nautilus Models. In addition, I've got a custom photo-etch brass detail set to replace the limber holes in the superstructure above the pressure hull. I think I've solved the problem of making the top of the pressure hull (which will be more or less visible through the limber holes). My only remaining problem seems to be How do I reproduce the weld seams in the pressure hull and supestructure? Since the detail level on a sub is somewhat low, I think that the seams should be visible. The ones on the kit are overdone, and in any case will be sanded off in the constuction phase. Does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks! Nick Onaitis stpete@adelphia.net ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From David L Miller Subject Warrior Queen I have just finished the model of the Queen Mary in her troopship colors and configuration. Some of you may recall that I asked for information re the Queen Mary on this list and the response was very good. I now know the purpose of a degaussing cable! I am sure my Aunt will treasure the model. Some of you contacted me directly with info and photos. I thank you. If you contact me again I will gladly send you a photo or two of the finished model. Regards, Dave Miller Macomb IL USA ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From Douglas Simpkin Subject John Roberts "Battlecruisers" >> I saw this on eBay .This seems to be a book that many on the list would be interested in. Book - BATTLECRUISERS - ShipShape Series by J. Roberts Item number 4562372450 << But feel free to read my review of Roberts' work on www.Amazon.com. I stick to that opinion. Doug Simpkin ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From "Paul Giltz" Subject UPC Shinano model I seem to recall that UPC released a 1400 model of the Shinano in a time long ago and far away, does anyone remember this kit? There is no need to comment on any redeeming value it may have had. Paul Giltz ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From "Gary Mansfield" Subject FAA' DA BRUNO ITALIAN MONITOR Hi SMML modellers, I have asked this before (a good reply from "John" in Rome, Daughter in Oxford, sorry lost your e-mail address) The Italian Monitor FAA'DA BRUNO of the WWI and used in WWII as floating battery GM 194; anybody with any good photographs or plans/drawings, or details of any books of this craft? I have a poor (dark) photo from Conway's and a drawing from www.worldatwar.net in "the war in the Adriatic". It is very strange looking craft, a square box with a prow welded on the front, a open turret with two 15" (38cm) guns with a armoured roof, AA guns and machine guns, a mast with control top (must have been "sporting" in there when the guns fired)! Thin funnel and that is it! Very small freeboard mainly for river use? Speed about 4 knots (a brisk walking space). Any information please? Thanks for all the one-armed card cutting ideas, things are coming on! GARY MANSFIELD ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRADERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS & NOTICEBOARD ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From "Sam Pullig" Subject French Battleships 1876-1946 R.A. Burt Some of you may have noticed I’ve been selling my books off on e-bay. Burt’s book was mentioned over the last few days. I have one I was going to put up on e-bay but would sell direct if someone wanted to give me a realistic bid. It is small enough to mail overseas by airmail. Let me hear from you.
