I will obtain your book as soon as it is out. I have dug out the Technical Reference 1 book on the USS North Carolina by Randall S. Shoker. This adds some more pictures to further define and/or confuse matters. The book shows her in #5 Navy Grey as she is fitting out in April 1941. The main turrets may not have been over painted by the time the picture was taken. There is to much contrast between the turret faces and the superstructure to be explained by shadows or uncured paint. My SWAG (Scientific Wild Ass Guess) is that they didn't get around to painting the turrets at the time the picture was taken. The book does not list it's source but the ship is at sea. The two tone 5" turret could be the same thing. The very dark third appears to be the same as the superstructure and the light two thirds could be the #5 Light Grey that hasen't been painted yet. There is a picture in both books showing a patern on the decks while she is in the first measure 32. The question remains if the deck was repainted entirely in deck blue when the anchor washboard was eliminated. I have no photographic indication, but I would guess that they didn't. Neither picture is difinitive enough (at least not as published) to determine the colors and pattern. I guess I will put her in solid deck blue shen I paint her. Again, thanks for the Information! Jim Johnson ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "Loren Pike" Subject Trumpeter Mount Whitney & Iowa Class BBs Jodie and all... Your remarks that it "...reminds me a lot of some of the Skywave Stuff..." is because IT IS A SKYWAVE/PITROAD KIT!!! SkyWave/PitRoad has a marketing agreement with Trumpeter for certain kits. The Iowa Class BBs that Trumpeter marketed a couple of years ago are SkyWave/PitRoad kits as is the Blue Ridge-Class ships. SkyWave/PitRoad will apparently market the kits in Japan with their box art, with their painting instructions and their assembly instructions and Trumpeter throughout the rest of the world with their box art, their painting instructions and their assembly instructions. I just received the two boxings of the SkyWave/PitRoad kits (#M 24 USS Blue Ridge LCC-19 & #M 25 USS Mount Whitney LCC-20) and am awaiting the Trumpeter versions. Other than price (Trumpeter is much less) and the aforementioned box art, painting instructions and assembly instructions) I feel that you will find the PLASTIC to be identical in all issues. I love that Trumpeter is "remarketing" the kits, at a lower price, to the rest of the world -- but it does "screw up" my collection -- I now have to have BOTH issues!!! Oh well, it is only money!!! By the way, my opinion on the Iowa Class Battleships (where I have both Trumpeter and SkyWave/PitRoad moldings) is that I do like the SkyWave/PitRoad directions, painting instructions and box art better than Trumpeter. This of course is a personal observation as the plastic is identical between the kits (Iowa vs Iowa, Mo. Vs Mo., etc.). I would "assume" that it will be the same way for the Trumpeter Blue Ridge vs SkyWave/PitRoad Blue Ridge, etc. By the way, I paid 3500 yen (around $33.50 USD) for my kits shipped from Japan (HLJ) along with some other stuff that I have a very hard time getting here in the USA. So, from a price standpoint -- Trumpeter wins hands down with a $22.00 USD price. Same plastic -- 50% less $$$. I agree with Jodie - the kits are gems and I can't wait to start construction!! I'll probably build my Trumpeter and "collect" my SkyWave/PitRoad! As to PE sheets -- I'm sure one or our manufacturers will do this kit as we have PE available for other "non-combat" ships -- like the Liberty ships in 700th. Loren A.
