John Reid ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From RDemeyere@aol.com Subject Re Shackleton's ship "Endurance" plans wanted >> I would like to add the "Endurance" to my collection of plans of ships to build in the future. I have been unable to locate a source for any plans, if anyone is able to help I would be most appreciative. << Thor, Doing some research on the Internet, I found out that the Framnes Shipyard was located on the island of Sandefjord in the Vestfold region of southern Norway. The shipyard apparently was closed some time ago and the shipyard's main administration building has now been restored and is used as an international baccalaurate high school by the Skagerak International Schools (SIS). (http//www.skagerak.org) On Sandefjord are also located a number of museums. Among them is the Hvalfangmuseet, a museum dedicated to whaling industry history. (http//www.hvalfangmuseet.no) I bring these to your attention because they may be able to provide information or knowledgeable points of contact concerning any surviving Framnes ship yard files (which might include plans for the Endurance). Both web sites provide contact information you could use to post inquiries concerning Framnes ship yard. If you want plans why not get copies of the originals if you can? While I don't know where you live, but with the given name of Thor, Sandefjord might actually be within reasonable traveling distance for you. An excursion to see the files (assuming they exist at all and you can pin down their location through correspondance) could save you considerable cost and frustration over having an archivist do hours of costly research on your behalf. Hope this is helpful to you. Russ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "thor" Subject Re CSS Shenandoah Hi Ed, Whilst looking for ship line drawings and plans for "Endurance" these books had come to my attention and might be worth checking out Confederate Raider 1861-65 (New Vanguard, 64) (Paperback)by Angus Konstam, Tony Bryan (Illustrator) CSS Alabama Anatomy of a Confederate Raider (Hardcover) by Andrew Bowcock Good luck, Thor ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRADERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS & NOTICEBOARD ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From "John Snyder" Subject Next Up from WEM in 1/350 Well, I've been sitting on the news, but Dave's gone and put it up on our site so I guess I can spill the beans here After much deliberation we've decided on our next WEM 1/350 scale kit, the WWII fast minelayer HMS Abdiel in her 1943 fit. Young Mr. Hall is so enthused by this slinky little number that it's made its way to the top of the queue, following ORP Piorun, which is just receiving the finishing touches before going off to the casters. We're not sure what price Abdiel will be pitched at yet, but we'll let you know as soon as we get the quotes on the casting. Of course, pre-orders will make Caroline happy, and are welcome, with no charges made until we ship. Mad Pete is already at work on the master pattern, so it will come along fairly quickly. Order item K 3565.
