I had a book ( "Strange Tales of Australia" by Alec Hepburn & Vic State Library), that told of the Confederate commerce raider, CSS Shenandoah, arriving in Melbourne Australia on 25 Jan 1867 and creating a "Graf Spee"-type incident. She docked to have a broken propeller fixed and, naturally, the American Federal Ambassador objected. When some sailors jumped ship, naturally, the ship's Captain objected. When the Shenandoah finally sailed on 18 Feb 1876, she had 40 new hands, so naturally, the American Federal Ambassador objected, again.
