They belonged to Luftwaffe aircraft, pilots and technical personnel, weather forecasters and all. The imperial navy and the k.u.k navy of WWI had planes. http//www.german-navy.de/kriegsmarine/aviation/index.html http//www.german-navy.de/kriegsmarine/aviation/shipbased/ar196/ Ulrich Rudofsky ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From Randy Ward Subject Re Details for Gunze QE-2 >> It cries out for pe rails. But I have been unable to find themin this scale from either Gold Medal Models orFlagship models. Does antone know of a source for these. Or perhaps someone knows some inside dope on a possible set specifically For this kit. Would appreciate any help. << Fred, I intend to use 1/400 PE on mine. The difference in height of 1/400 and 1/450 railing would be about 1/4 of a mm, not enough to be noticeable in my book. Cap'n Randy ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "Nuno Rubim" Subject WW II German Auxiliary Cruisers (Radar) According to some sources WW II German Auxiliary Cruisers (Hilfskreuzers) were equipped with some Radar sets. At least Kormoran received an experimental set, wich didn't work, as did Komet, on wich I have only one single reference. Were there any others Aux.Cruisers equipped wich such devices? If such wich were the alloted Radars types ? Thanks Nuno Rubim ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From Lamar B. Jones Subject Civilian Liberty Ships I understand a book was published in Australia, privately published, detailing information about commercially operated Liberty ships in the post WWII period. Can anyone please give me a citation for this work, or better yet suggest where I might be able to purchase a copy? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From "Michael D'Silva" Subject Re PhotoEtch for GS 1450 QE2 Hi Fred, There is no dedicated PE set for the GS 1450 Queen Elizabeth 2. Your best bet is Gold Medal Models PE 450-7 Merchant Ship Fittings. Although designed around the Titanic & Lusitania, it can be used for other ocean liners in the scale. Michael J. D'Silva “Whether I win or lose does not matter; only that I follow the quest” ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From Djonezboyz@aol.com Subject I've found a nice Battleship book The members of the list may already know about this book. I found it at Barnes & Nobles for $5.99. It's called The World Encyclopedia of Battleships. It covers ships from 1860 onwards. Quite a bargin. Mike Jones ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From Roland Mar Subject Re German naval aircraft markings TO Nuno Rubim I may well be wrong about this, but from the fact that the Germans did not have an independent Fleet Air Arm and all their naval aircraft belonged to the Luftwaffe, and from the pictures I have seen; I would assume that the basic markings were the same as the Luftwaffe except for specialized camoflage. Alfred Price's "Luftwaffe Handbook" notes the existence of maritime related independent Gruppen that were not affiliated with a Geschwader [Wing]. Seeaufklaerungsgruppen [naval reconnaisance groups] and Kuestenfliegergruppen [Coastal Flying Groups] existed, and the latter were known to catapult BV-138 recon seaplanes from ships. Lacking a Carrier Air Group for the never operational Graf Zeppelin, most German shipboard naval air was in the form of seaplane detachments on board larger combatants. Price's book lists the alphanumerical unit markings for major NON-fighter Geschwadern and independent Gruppen. The maritime units seem to have followed standard Luftwaffe practice for non-Jagdgeschwadern [Fighter Wings]. Siegfried Breyer's "The German Aircraft Carrier Graf Zeppelin" shows a picture of a folding wing Ju-87C STUKA designed for the GZ, but there are no unit designation markings and it appears [from a black and white photo] to have a mottled dark colored sides and upper surfaces, and a light underside. I am guessing shades of green above and light blue below. This is complicated by the fact that this is apparently a prototype aircraft and may have been painted in RLM colors instead of those of the non-existent operational unit. Your problem is going to be finding what specific aircraft and unit and time; and seeking pictures, I fear. Hope this is of some help.
