The Monogram JFK is somewhere around 1/819 scale. I'm pretty sure it's in the current catalog, albeit labeled Kitty Hawk with "63" decals. This model is definitely not the Kitty Hawk. If it's not in production I'm sure you could find it on Ebay at a good price, as there's not a huge demand for this kit. Rod ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From "Roy McKay" Subject good guy alert.... Good guy alert for Peter Chant, answered my call here for a Peacock Class and held up his end of the deal. Many thanks. Roy ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "Roy McKay" Subject looking for (again).....USS Barry bits.. As my last request was answered so fast, going to try again. I have the Revell boxing of the 1/700 Skywave Burke-class but I have no instructions or decals. (I got a replacement instruction sheet from someone a while back but I've lost that too..) but I would prefer to build her as USS Barry DDG-52, as I have visited her. Has anyone got left-over decals from any other issue that contain the relevant numbers and name? Also, a long time ago I visited USS Comte De Grasse DD-974, also looking for left-over decals for this Spruance-class, again names and numbers. Can anyone help? Email me if so. Willing to pay or trade, but only have a little ship stuff available. (Lots of 1/72 wingy thingy naval decals though....) Cheers, Roy ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From "Tim Perry" Subject Re Graphics software You do not need to spaend a small fortune on graphics software for this ind of work. I picked up a full copy of a recent version of Coreldraw on eBay for about £20 ($30) which will do everything I will ever need! And loads more besides. There are dozens of vector and bitmap programs available as demos, or 'free trial to test, discount on the latest version' offers, PC magazine cover discs, or from PC magazine sites. Here in the UK, www.pcpro.co.uk has a very large library of such useful software. Look out for Canvas, TurboCAD, for example. Another excellent little program is Expression 3, which I downloaded from the Microsoft site; Uncle Bill bought the company he was so impressed, apparently.... Go to http//www.microsoft.com/products/expression/previous/expression3_home.aspx for more details, tutorials and download. Free! Hope this helps, Tim Perry wunwinglow ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From Jtennier@aol.com Subject Great War Bottom Paint Hi All I'm interested if anyone would care to hazard a guess as to the colour of the bottoms of RN light cruisers attached to the Grand Fleet around Jutland. I'm thinking red, but can anyone offer a match in terms of commercially available model paints? For references I'm looking at "British Warships 1845-1945", a small HMSO publication, but with colour photos of models held by the Science Musuem. A few of their models just predate the Great War, and show red bottoms, but no boot tops, which I know from photos to be wrong, as many of them had fairly wide black boot tops. But the bottom remains a mystery. TIA John ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From "Ken Goldman" Subject Kaiten victories I just finished reading an autobiography of a Kaiten pilot. He glories in the "forty" major victories by this suicide torpedo. The reality, however, is that Kaiten accounted for two US Navy ships sunk and one American merchant ship. Although every submarine service tended to err on the plus side when reporting victories, no other submarine service comes close to this discrepancy, and I have been unable to find out why the Japanese claim was so far off. Was there a fatal flaw in the Kaiten design that caused them to explode prematurely that caused the launching sub's skipper to assume a successful attack, or what? Does anyone in the group mind know?
