Subject: SMML VOL 2928 Date: Wed, 07 Sep 2005 01:31:13 +1000 The Ship Modelling Mailing List (SMML) is proudly sponsored by SANDLE http//sandlehobbies.com For infomation on how to Post to SMML and Unsubscribe from SMML http//smmlonline.com/aboutsmml/rules.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- MODELLERS INDEX 1 Re Color of Civil War Ironclads 2 Part 4 of USS Tinan build on IPMS/USA web site! 3 Royal Navy post war 21" Torpedoes 4 Borodino 5 Re IJN Submarine Tenders ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- MODELLERS ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From PAUL TOSCANO Subject Re Color of Civil War Ironclads I have acquired some ironclad kits but am not too certain of what color to paint them. Would anyone know the colors of the Union and Confederate ironclads and be able to list Humbrol, Colorcoat, Tamiya, or Gunze colors? It seems that this is a tricky question but any information would be of help. Thanks, Paul ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From Rusty White Subject Part 4 of USS Tinan build on IPMS/USA web site! For those of you following this, it doesn't appear on the home page of IPMS/USA, so here's the url. http//ipmsusa.org/Reviews/How_To/How_to.htm Just click on Heavy Assault Ship. Work is proceeding on the "How to" CD for the Tinian Build. WAY longer than the abbreviated version you have seen so far with LOTS more photos, techniques and tips. Rusty White Flagship Models Inc ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From Subject Royal Navy post war 21" Torpedoes Does anyone know of, or know a reference for, the 21” torpedoes fitted to the original Type 12 RN Frigates, the Whitby and Rothesay class? These originally carried 12 tubes and they are listed in most references as anti submarine weapons. But the 21” torpedo of that era was an anti surface weapon, as fitted to most destroyers. If they were surface weapons it rather begs the classification of the type as “Anti Submarine” when they carried more tubes than the average destroyer of the time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From Hans Bosma Subject Borodino Hi all, Does anybody have a link or is in the possession of good quality pics from the Russian battleships Kniaz Souvourov , Oriol, Borodino, or Alexander III. I am building the eastern express kit but I do not have any good pics of the real thing. Also clear modelpics from museums are welcome Thanks beforehand Hans ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From "Daniel A. Kaplan" Subject Re IJN Submarine Tenders >> Does anyone have information on the operations of the sub tenders in the IJN? Were they forward deployed to bases like Rabaul, Truk, Singapore, etc? If so, which ships were deployed to which locations? << Nat, just go to the Nihon Kaigun/Combined Fleet website and review the TROMS (Tabular Records of Movement) for Submarine Depot Ships http//www.combinedfleet.com/sensuikan.htm - see page at bottom.
