Thankfully. Nor, in terms of equipment at least, of Bomber Command either. The Wellington was as capable a bomber as any in the world. In any case, it is rather a startling statement to suggest that any of the British services were more poorly prepared than the Army. The history of the British tank is a long saga of incompetence and misapplication. I would point out again that the equipment provided to the Fleet Air Arm, whilst the RAF was in control, was as good as that any elsewhere in the world. That its use was not properly integrated into naval operations is a fault to be laid at the door of the Admiralty. It was the Admiralty's lack of grasp of the realities of aircraft design that lead to unrealistic specifications and the resulting inadequate aircraft, once they had retaken control of such matters. That they had failed to keep an eye on such matters earlier cannot be blamed solely on the RAF. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From Jodie Peeler Subject Museum ships hello all -- Mark Krumrey wrote >> Two words why state or local governments won't and don't maintain these Museum ships, "Political Correctness". << WHAT? I suspect it has more to do with that ships -- even the "small boys" -- are constant maintenance headaches and cost a *lot* of money to maintain even in good times. They are a *very* hard sell for governments, especially those in strapped states and municipalities where they're having problems enough providing for basic public safety needs (I could elaborate on my own state's severe shortage of state troopers, for one). That's not to mention all the regulations, etc., that Ed Grune mentioned that would be obstacles to using ships for shelter/emergency purposes. "Political correctness" isn't the culprit -- it's simple economics more than anything else. jodie ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "Pwesty" Subject Sinking the Supership vcr alert!!!!!!! Hi Guys I have just come across an up coming program by PBS Nova on the Battleship Yamato airing on October 4. Here is the link for those who are interested http//www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/supership/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From andrew jones Subject Zhong Shan Gunship Hi there Recentky picked this kit (static Model version) up quite cheaply the other day..yes i know I have heard reports that it is a hunk of junk & its more toy than kit..but hey ..the box art was funny with Chinese & Japanese planes flying around & flying just over the ship appears to be a Spanish Civil War Soviet fighter. Anyhow..... i tried doing a search via the net of the ship & basicially came up with nothing on its history & what it actually looked like.. In the instruction sheet there appears to be a photo/BW artwork of the kit ..yet the box art & box art photos show a different version The main difference appears to be the bridge..the kit & the BW Artwork show an open bridge..yet the box art & kit photos show an enclosed bridge.. when did the enclosed bridge come in as i want to build it during the Japanese invasion of China Also its a bit hard to tell..but the instruction artwork does not appear to show the single barrel MG & the "lower deck" guns (MG's or light weight cannons?) ..where these added in when the bridge was enclosed? Colour Scheme...the box art kit photos show a white or off white hull... teak decks & then in some areas black decks. Thanks in advance regards Andrew Oz ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From Steve Singlar Subject Hobby Shops in South Texas Thanks Ed. He would like to paint her to represent the way she looked at Jutland. Does anyone have an idea of what color her deck would have been during this time period? Gray, Tan or? Thanks in advance for any help.
