He was a crewman on PG-70 USS Courage (ex-HMS Heartsease) and he mentioned that the ship did roll quite a lot. At least it stayed afloat, as others have mentioned. The Courage never saw much combat as the destroyers always called her off to go after the U-boats themselves. This crewman was still on board when she switched to patrolling off Greenland, which he said was miserable (cold) and boring (no action at all.) My intention is to build my copy of the Revell corvette kit as the USS Courage. John Lambert was able to provide some information (Thanks John!) but I haven't found much on the US Flowers at all. Larry Ouellette Volunteer, USS Salem (CA 139) United States Naval Shipbuilding Museum Quincy, Massachusetts, USA http//www.uss-salem.org/ http//www.hauntedship.com/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From Keith Butterley Subject Re A-I drawings My book, River Class Destroyers of the RCN 1931-1946 due next year will contain GA drawings for mostly an A (Saguenay) , C (Fraser), Decoy, Hero and Griffin. Or at least it is suppose to, who knows what the publisher will cut out of it. Express has already been dropped. Keith Butterley ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From Fritz Koopman Subject Re RN warship forefoot paravane attachments David Wells wrote >> OK, that makes sense. And it also means that the Revell KGV version is REALLY bad. I'll probably have to cut it off one way or the other. << Here's a link to a picture of the Tamiya model. The paravane shackle plate that juts forward of the stemline is reasonably accurate. You can compare this with the Revell kit as I've never seen one of those. http//www.tamiya.com/english/products/list/350ship_img/78010.jpg >> Were these ever removed from earlier ships? Were they fitted to late WWII ships? Since I'm planning on doing a Lion, in a "late war" configuration, so perhaps I should ask about such ships as HMS Anson or HMS Howe. Did they have these fittings? << To answer in order No. Yes. Yes. But Wasn't Lion scrapped in the twenties? And didn't she have a ram bow as opposed to the straight stem that the later ships had? Hope this helps -) Best Regards Fritz Koopman ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From M Brown Subject Re RN Paravane attachments If you go to the Model Boats website, there is a photo of Belfast when she was last in dry dock. Seems to still be there to me. http//www.modelboats.co.uk Regards, Michael Brown ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From "Gary Mansfield" Subject REVELL PADDLE STEAMER GOETHE Hi, On looking on the web, I have found that the Revell kit of the Paddle Steamer "Goethe" is shown in her old colours; She is now in black around the paddle box vents, paddle wheel boxes (transfers used in the kit), and all the old style letters etc has gone along with various other little changes new funnel shape, windows filled in etc My question is is there a way to produce these new style vents, name plate in transfer format? I remember seeing something about it in a modelling magazine a while ago... Being disabled with a stroke and in a wheelchair 24/7 and only for good left hand it makes for interesting modelling at times! But I have many friends via "SMML land" which have helped me a lot!! My Airfix 1600 HMS Fearless is looking like the real thing in Portsmouth... (Well, I have to try things out)! And has anybody tried the xuron pliers for cutting plastic kit parts from spruce? Their PE cutting pliers is really neat! I am at Telford 2005 if anybody wishes to meet. Kind regards Gary Mansfield ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From Subject Dog Boat query Does anyone know about the planking on the D Class Fairmile MGB/MTB? Previous Fairmiles had double diagonal planking but in the only photos I have of construction (from Allied Coastal Forces of WW2) the planking on the D seems to be horizontal, except the deck, which retains the diagonal in the form of a Herring Bone pattern. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRADERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS & NOTICEBOARD ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From "zachary wood" Subject Figurehead 1/6000 scale miniatures for sale Hello All This isn't really ship modelling related ,but I know there are some gamers out there.
