They really needed to have it in three parts like LOTR or Star Wars. << Money, pure and simple. Besides, changing it makes it truely part of the Douglas Adams universe ... no two versions of it have ever been consistant with each other. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From MPMenache@aol.com Subject Re Yamato The yamato movie has led the tamiya compnay to repackage their 1/350 scale Yamato kit. Sometime in the next month or so tamiya will add something new to the Yamato. Can't wait to see it. mike ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "Devin J. Poore" Subject Looking for someone to do a restore I've been contacted by someone who needs a cruise liner model restored. It's wood, about 36" in length, and resides in the New York City/Northern New Jersey area. The man is looking to have the paint retouched, some broken deck items re-attached, and a general restoration done. I was contacted to take on the project, but I simply don't have the time for it through the next year and a half, and I don't have room for something three-feet long on my workbench. I have digital photos of it, and it doesn't look like it will be that difficult of a project. If anyone is interested, or knows of anyone, shoot me an email, and I'll get the parties involved in touch. Thanks, Devin ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From M Brown Subject Re Alan Raven's colour code? Brett, Sandle Hobbies who sponsor this site are the Oz distributors for White Ensign's paints! Michael Brown ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From "David N. Lombard" Subject Special Navy 1/72 U-Boot Type XXIII I finally got the above kit, that has been singing its siren song to me for the past weeks. It includes w/ plastic, resin, and PE. Haven't checked the fit yet, but it looks like a nice build. David N. Lombard" Subject Facimile USS HORNET First War Cruise Book 1943-1945 Picked up the above book this weekend. With simple olive green covers, there's no identification on it other than a note "Reprinted from the original that was lithographed on board the U.S.S. Hornet." David N. Lombard Rossmoor, Orange County, CA http//www.fourmilab.ch/cgi-bin/uncgi/Earth?imgsize=320&opt=-z&lat=33.8&ns=North&lon=118.08&ew=West&alt=7&img=learth.evif ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From "John Snyder" Subject Re Alan Raven's Colour Code Hi Brett, First of all, don't try to match any paints to the colour swatches on the backs of Alan's books. Those are inks printed in a 4-colour process, and can only approximate paint colours--they are NOT accurate representations. If you want to match commercial model paints to the various naval colours rather than using Colourcoats, then you need to lay your hands on the Snyder & Short colour chips which are matched to the original colours. You can then mix and match your paint brand of choice to the various colours. Of course, I have to note that Colourcoats are available in Oz from our own SMML hosts, Shane and Lorna through their SANDLE Hobbies. Steve Guzy ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From "John Lambert" Subject HMS/M Graph ex U- 570 A "true" story, this one. On 28th August 1941, U. 570 whilst on her first operational cruise was surprised by a Hudson aircraft and subsequently captured virtually intact. A prize crew was put aboard, and she was towed to the UK. A new Type VIIc boat she was examined by Vickers-Armstrongs Ltd at Barrow-in-Furness. All highly secret, she was tested and eventually put back into service under the White Ensign, to be lost off the west coast of Islay in March 1944. For sale to the highest bidder- A hardback original. HMS "Graph" Diagrammatic Arrangements of linen pull out drawings. In excellent condition. The results of Barrows wartime examination and expertise. 14 original drawings showing in detail (and colour) the ships internal systems, watertight compartments, docking plan, water service, drinking, washing and slop drain systems. The telemotor system, H.P.air service, Air start system, L.P. Air service, vent and blow service, ship and battery ventilation, the oil fuel system, forced lubrication, draining and filling systems. Water compensating, measuring and testing systems for the oil fuel system and (No 14) the circulating water system. This was not a commercial publication but the official record of a unique wartime event. Date stamped "Naval Construction Works, Vickers-Armstrongs Ltd. Barrow-in-Furness, Shipyard Dept. 23rd January 1942". I have a few more original items too. I need the space and they need a good home!
