Thanks Nuno Rubim ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From Kelvin Mok Subject Jelutong Wood >> Forget the Protoboard/butterboard/Renshape - it's expensive. I use jelutong, a traditional patternmakers wood that is cheap, easy to carve and shape. << I grew up in the Far East and am familiar with this wood. But where can one by this in Canada? One characteristic of jelutong. If it is damp its a magnet for mold growth. Seal all exposed surfaces with varnish or paint. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From Rusty White Subject Manassas anchor rigging >> Congrats Rusty. Let me just say, I have the Ironclad Ram C.S.S. Manassas from Lone Star, and it is a nice kit. Rusty, when you are working on the instructions, check out the rig of the anchors on the bow. The Lone Star instructions are a bit vague there, and I am having problems with how I want to rig them. Any ideas? << Ed, I am currently re-drawing all the instruction sheets with a CAD program clarifying things like that as I go. One thing I have noticed about the ACW ironclads is that there is a LOT not known about them (and a LOT of WRONG information on the web) because most were all hasitly assembled or modified from existing vessels to get into action. The result being a lack of accurate records or documentation on some vessels. Lone Star's owner, Mike West is a wealth of accurate information on these vessels because all his designs and drawings were provided by the Museum of Civil War Naval History, so they are as accurate as they can possibly be. My suggestion is that you contact Mike and ask him. He's a great guy and I'm sure he would be happy to answer your questions. That's what I do when I need clarification. Contact me off board and I'll forward your question to him. I agree with you that these are all really good kits. They can be great kits with some photo etch and better instructions. Back to work. It is an absolute Gem. Not many injection parts but plenty of Resin and PE to keep you happy. The best deal on this kit is from NKR Models in Ballarat Australia (they have a web site NKRModel@netconnect.com.au). I paid $60 Aus compared with the price of $130 in Melbourne Hobby stores if you can find them. NKR offer excellent mail order service. Cheers Phil ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From "WEM" Subject Re SS Winfield Scott/Flagship Models For plans of the Scott, I'd start with the National Maritime Museum library in San Francisco. Rusty Civil War ironclads the birth of the USN??!! Birth of the MODERN USN, perhaps, but the real birth was in the previous century.... Cheers, John Snyder White Ensign Models ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From "Doug Bauer" Subject Thanks Thanks to all who provided input to my query on protoboard/butterboard/RenShape....your assistance is much-appreciated.
