Were you interested in any particular ship? Mike McCabe ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From Rusty White Subject American Civil War Ironclads >> Rusty Civil War ironclads the birth of the USN??!! Birth of the MODERN USN, perhaps, but the real birth was in the previous century.... << Correct. Sorry, I tend to think in the modern era too often. A habit I need to break. Rusty White Flagship Models Inc ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "Rick Nelson" Subject Re Special Navy 1/72 U-Boot Type XXIII >> I recently purchased the Special Navy 1/72 U-Boot Type XXIII. It is an absolute Gem. Not many injection parts but plenty of Resin and PE to keep you happy. The best deal on this kit is from NKR Models in Ballarat Australia (they have a web site NKRModel@netconnect.com.au). I paid $60 Aus compared with the price of $130 in Melbourne Hobby stores if you can find them. NKR offer excellent mail order service. << Hi Phil, Who put this kit together and what is the kit Part Number? Thanks, Rick Nelson "Damn the Pressure, Six-Zero feet!" "Boomers Hide With Pride" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From ColinMurphy04@aol.com Subject USS Missouri deck planking I wonder if there is anyone out there who can help me, or at least point me in the right direction. I am making a 1/128 scale Missouri (63) I need details of the breaks / staggering of the deck planking, does a drg. exist, and where. Or is there a good arial photograph that I could scale from. I have lots of ref. material, photographs / plans, etc. but none that show the deck planking in detail. Regards Colin ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) From Kerry Jang Subject Re Jelutong Hi Kelvin, In Canada (and North America) a wonderful supplier is A&M Woods in Cambridge Ontario. Their website is http//www.amwoodinc.com (usual disclaimer, just a satisfied customer). They shipped several planks to me in Vancouver via UPS and responded to e-mails quickly. I have used jelutong for carving hulls for several years. I like it much better than basswood. It is easy to work (carve, sand, plane). The stock I bought is very clear and straight grained and well dried. It is also inexpensive for the amounts you are getting. Best, Kerry ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) From Dennis getz Subject U-boat questions I am planning to model a U-Boat under going a load out prior to going to sea and I have several questions. What scale would be the best? I have a feeling that 1/72 would be too damn big? What color were German navy vehicles? Which type, ie Opel Blitz or did they use captured French vehicles of a combination of both? Were the markings any different the army vehicles. What sort of shore crane did they use for torpedos and other heavy loads. Does anyone make one in any scale or can I get plans or photos from somewere or someone. For instance how did they get replacement batteries on board. Speaking of which did they cut a hull patch or lower thru a hatch when replacing batteries. What about shore connections such as water and electricity. Where there hull connections for these or were they connected in the boat thru a hatch. What about fuel connections, external or internal. Did they use fuel bowsers or a pumping system from central tanks. What about sanitary connections, if any. I am assuming that since there was no EPA then that the tanks were just pumped to sea while in port. Even in the US Navy until the late seventies sanitary tanks were just pumped overboard while in oversea ports that did not forbid it. What flag did they use for no smoking, the all red bravo like the US and GB use. As you can tell I have more questions than answers. Dennis Getz SubSafe and sound isolated ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) From "Ron Wild" Subject Jelutong wood I live in BC and I was able to buy Jelutong at one of the specialty wood shops in Victoria. It's also fairly common at the usual building supply dealers. Try Home Depot or Rona. If they don't have it , they will probably tell you where you can get it. Ron Wild, Penticton BC --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From Raven0222@aol.com Subject Looking for Heller Vanguard Gentlemen I am seeking the Heller kit of the HMS Vanguard. Please respond to Ravenarts@aol.com Fair winds ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) From Subject Pickle it! Up spirits!
