I'm also pretty sure he drew a diagram showing that radar at the after end of the foretop. If you want, I can go find the file on my correspondence with him and I'll make sure. Art Nicholson ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From John Sweetman Subject Heller Vanguard, "Merchant Navy" Swordfishes Felicitations Gentlefolk, Ref. Heller 1/400 HMS Vanguard, It is available, albeit almost as rare as hens teeth! Suggest try second hand model dealers For example King Kit in UK www.kingkit.co.uk email King Kit kingkit@kingkit.co.uk or perhaps advertising in the modelling press! Ref. Senor Nuno Rubin, the Warpaint Monogram "Fairy Swordfish" has photos of "Merchant Navy" Swordfishes aboard "Mac Ships" available from above address. Alternatively Xtradecal xo3948 has marking of LS326/E2 "Merchant Navy" available from Aeroclub models/Hannants in UK via mail order. (should he have difficulty, please drop me a bell! I will attempt to copy my photos, though cannot guarantee results!) 2 projects from me. Living in sleepy hollow aka Songkhla, Thailand there is a dearth in information. Does any one have any advice/ notes/ info about how to convert Frog (Ex Airfix) HMS Repulse into HMS Renown, about Mid WWII, say 1943? Also My father served on HMS Dorsetshire, when she was operational in the Red Sea C. 1940, does any one have any similar info about how to convert the Airfix HMS Suffolk? Best Regards John Sweetman ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "GRAHAM BOAK" Subject Re MAC ships >> Another interesting related issue is the fact that some Fairey Swordfish based on MACs carried "Merchant Navy" instead of "Royal Navy", but I never found any photo of it. << There is a photo in Ray Sturtivant's The Squadrons of the Fleet Air Arm, published by Air Britain. It shows Swordfish II HS380, with "MERCHANT NAVY" in place of the "ROYAL NAVY" centred above the serial, same size/shape of letters. The individual aircraft letter is a black A, on the lower half of the fuselage, partway between the roundel and the serial. I suspect it, or others, will be found in specialist Swordfish books. Look for 836 Squadron, which supplied all the MAC aircraft and crews. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check out the SMML site for the List Rules, Reviews, Articles, Backissues, Member's models & Reference Pictures at http//smmlonline.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Volume
