Japanese firm Hasegawa are the only model company to make the HMS Vanguard which boasts both large scale and motorised components to allow the completed model to 'swim' as it were. Anyone interested in the kit might well be better off looking on eBay as most model suppliers seem to be out-of-stock these days (that's where I bought my model a while back). The kit number is 'A-101000' and also be advised that the kit, like the HMS Manxman and Suffolk from Airfix, has been re-released and now appears in a white box with a painting of the starboard side of HMS Vanguard (original was in a half brown box with a painting of Vanguard heading 'towards you', and plenty of Japanese on box due to original intention to sell just to the Japanese market). The new kit comes with Engrish instructions (delibrate typing error with Engrish as some may understand). ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From Patrick Hough Subject revell four stacker photoetch set anybody make a photoetch set for the old revell four stacker destroyers such as uss aaron ward and hms campbelltown? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From "Allan and Crystal Plumb" Subject Re Repulse to Renown To David Wells -- You'll note I said "At first level". -) As noted, the two sisters' armour branched way off in the 20's. -- Breyer's book has drawings of Repulse and Renown throughout their lives. If accurate (always a concern with this source), it looks like Renown's bulges were bigger than Repulse's. They appear to be longer, and show up more in overhead drawings. But, a start. -- Robert's "Battlecruisers" book has lots on original design, but not updates. Haven't seen his "British Warships of WWII" which has plans, but I don't know of what. -- As to British Cruisers - nyah! Both were out of print (Battleships came back in a while ago, may be still in), I got my copy of Cruisers here on SMML from a member (Roger Torgeson?) To John Sweetman -- As noted, both books by Raven and Roberts are often out of print. For new copies I would try the US Naval Institute at www.usni.org, but I don't see them there. My next step would be www.bn.com and www.amazon.com, which probably won't have new copies but tend to have links to used sellers. I've found things I wanted there. Or, there's always Ebay. In any case, availability will be more of an issue than price/shipping. And no, mine are NOT for sale. -) Allan Plumb, another fan of HMS Lion (194x) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From Subject Habbakuk Project I posted a similar query a few weeks back when my kids came home from school with some silly story about an aircraft carrier built from ice and was startled to find it true, though it does seem their history teacher relies more on Ripleys Believe it or Not rather than more conventional teaching references regarding WW2! When there enthusiastic talk had died down I asked them what they could tell me about the aircraft carriers that actually did see service. Blank looks. Then son number two brightened and said. "They had big balloons that carried planes as well!" So much for the Ark Royal and her immortal place in British Military History. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRADERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS & NOTICEBOARD ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) From Derek Frost Subject Books FS BATTLECRUISERS.
