This discussion has motivated me ... << A carrier would be good to show damage, mangled aircraft, chewed up flight deck and so on. Damage to ships is not always that obvious, though there are some spectacular pictures of the damage to Glamorgan after taking an Exocet hit the real havoc of course takes place internally. Cannon fire from aircraft in the Falklands punched holes about the size of a basketball in superstructure and hull, the holes as I recall were surprisingly neat, I honestly think normal machine gun shot would have given a lot more trouble, the cannons exploded on contact, a solid shell would have ripped through the ship. Unexploded bombs caused tears in the deck, the metal stretching and pushed down along the path of the bomb, which was usually at an angle. Glancing bomb hits would knock great gouges in steel, sometimes you got a "skipping" effect as the bomb clipped a hanger roof and then the flight deck for instance. An exploding bomb tended to vent back along its own path to form the classic jagged crater wall familiar from WW2 pictures. But everything you see is only a hint to the devastation that takes place inside, the design of a ship tends to localise the blast effect which makes it all the more powerful in the effected area. Sometimes the only hint you had from the outside was a ripple effect of stressed steel and scorched paint. The real neat trick would be to model explosions as they occur, I plan to use tinted Perspex rods to simulate Martian "Heat Camera" rays slicing up poor Thunderchild and thought sheet Perspex film formed into a rose shape and tinted might make passable explosions, perhaps aided with flashing LEDs Oh and as mentioned earlier, not a good idea to tell your enemy how much damage you are doing, the Argentineans learned they were fusing their bombs wrong from British News reports. Thanks guys. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From "shaya novak" Subject Revell directions for the Forrest Sherman Class Can anybody send a copy of the directions for this Revell kit? Richard O'Neill's book SUICIDE SQUADS is a very good resource on this subject and has many very good photographs of all of the above subjects except for the Japanese turret and torpedo tube mount. Considering the very fine detail associated with all of CHOROSZY MODELBUD's products, one could only hope that they consider modeling various other nation's destroyer turret and torpedo tube mounts.
