Joe Poutre & and I are starting work on Rajen's List Version 6.6, and so we're asking the model ship community for more reviews. If you have built a model ship, and would like to review it for the list, please contact me off list. There are LOTS of kits that haven't been reviewed yet, including many "mainstream" kits. Nobody has even done the Tamiya 1/350 Fletcher yet! Manufacturers who would like their kits listed should contact Joe Poutre at joseph.poutre@verizon.net. Manufacturers can provide "basic" information such as kit numbers, release dates, the number of parts in each kit, etc., but cannot review kits. You can see Version 6.5 at http//www.quuxuum.org/rajens_list/shiprevs.html "There seems to be something wrong | David R. Wells with our bloody ships today" | Adm. D. Beatty, May 31, 1916 | http//home.att.net/~WellsBrothers/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From "John Lambert" Subject British Carriers Decks Hi Petr R N Carriers of that era all had steel decks. Those by the flight deck such as catwalks would have had drain holes. The only wooden deck in the ship was the holystoned "quarterdeck", in pristine condition and for officers only. Mind you I served aboard Theseus, Albion and Bulwark, and visited mates aboard Ark Royal and Victorious. I was never on Fight Deck party, but I can indeed describe, in detail the machinery spaces etc, and "B" Boiler Room of HMS Bulward - The Rusty "B". All long long ago now. Yours "Aye" John ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From Maarten Schönfeld Subject Re Model Shops in Amsterdam >> I am visiting Amsterdam next week and would be gratefull for advice on any worthwhile model shops in the city. << Hello Francis, The first (and best) place to go in Amsterdam is the National Shipping Museum, on the ground floor are two shops (memorabilia/books) and in the basement is a good modelling shop, focused on (wooden) sailing ships http//www.scheepvaartmuseum.nl/index_explorer.htm The museum itself is certainly worth the effort. When you don't visit the museum but only want to see the shops you don't need to pay entrance fee. If you have the time and the opportunity to travel outside Amsterdam there are several other and better modelling shops. In that case give me an email off-line. Have a nice visit, Maarten Schönfeld ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check out the SMML site for the List Rules, Reviews, Articles, Backissues, Member's models & Reference Pictures at http//smmlonline.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Volume
