I mean british war ships (WW II) HMS Ark Royal and HMS Victorious. Were they made in one piece (steel) or with holes, perforated or made from wood, etc.? Is there any photo of them? << Petr Photos showing the deck treatments of RN carriers are notoriously difficult to come by, the b+w shots available don't help much as the decks are frequently in dark shadow, and I am interpreting 'deck' as any horizontal surface on a carrier. As John Lambert says, the quarterdeck was generally planked on the fleet carriers, Ark Royal also had wood planking on the decks surrrounding the 4.5 " mounts. By 'perforated' decks I am assuming that you are most interested in the 'safety nets' carried on the Armoured carriers such as Victorious. These were not 'nets' but discontinuous platforms below flight deck level with solid floors and railed sides, with beams connecting them backto flight deck level. Pre-war carriers may well have had corticene on these platform bases -a mid-brown colour, but I think that wartime carriers would have had bases painted to match the surrounding camouflage colour - whether vertical or horizontal I have never worked out for my Victorious - I plumped for painting them overall to match the side camouflage colour carried at that point on the ship's side, making some MS 3 (mostly on the starboard side side) and some AP507A dark grey (mostly to port). regards Steve ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From ted0330@aol.com Subject 1350 resin kits Hi all- out of ship building for three years, and just returned. Interested in first and second generation dreadnought battleships. There was a large selection of 1350 resin/PE brass/white metal kits out there, but can't find any now. Where did they all go? Any help appreciated.
