This model is a big improvement over that of the Ohio. It has photo-etch galore and much crisper resin molding of the deck details, improved rigging, punched through (rather than indented) portholes and windows, etc. It is made in the same scale, roughly 1/400 and is also full-hull on brass pedestals mounted on a wood plinth. Ebay sold one of these last year for about $150. However if one is interested, I'd suggest contacting the marketing division of Texaco as it was made for them as a publicity tool shortly after 9/11, to honor the Manhattan victims. Jim Bloom ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From "Reid, John (AFIU)" Subject Dynamic Diving Revell 1/72 Type VIIC Magazine Article A couple of weeks ago someone in Oz asked about diving conversions of this kit. The article I briefly cited in a lightning response is in Model Boats Jan 2006 pages 44-47, author Keith Bragg. Very soon this issue ought to hit the antipodean news stands; sooner or later most of the capital-city libraries have it in their magazine reference section. The approach is dynamic diving – i.e. almost neutral buoyancy and overscale diving planes to drive it down to periscope depth, so hull strength is not an issue. I am not a large-scale or r/c buff, but the article looked to me like good how-to stuff, and there are photos of the boat running dived, so it CAN be done. John Reid ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From Fkbrown90@aol.com Subject Vendor for model submarine fittings etc Can any SMML people please advise the name and address of a vendor (or vendors) who carries fittings (periscopes, diving planes, etc.) for model submarines ? Scale is not important at this point in time. Thanks.
