The Local Hobby Shop bloke (in Sydney, Australia) reckons that Revell has/will cease production of their 1/72-scale Type VII U-Boat and their S-100 E-Boat. Is this fact or fiction? << Both are still listed in the Revell Germany catalog, neither say's they are being discontinued. What might have confused the Hobby shop is that they are also releasing two new version of the kits. the S-100 with a Quad flak gun and a U-VII/41 "Atlantic" Rich ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From "Ouellette, Lawrence M" Subject Re Guided Missile Fleet Rick Lundin wrote >> It looks as if Revell Germany is going to be releasing the old Guided Missile Fleet gift set as part of their 50th anniversary. Like Annette on the Mickey Mouse Club, the Revell Guided Misslie Fleet gift set was one of those things that those of us of a certain age lusted after in the late 1950's but never attained. << I hope I'm wrong, but people on other ship modeling forums strongly believe that what you are seeing is a display celebrating the 50 years of Revell, not a display of what they are intending to release. That big round display shows a history of the company, the current/future product displays are separate. I saw a close-up of the Missile Fleet display, and the kits displayed along with the box-top look like they were borrowed from someone's collection. The box-top is all worn, and the kits look like they were built in the 1960's. Hardly a sales generating, marketing display. ( Back when Revell-Monogram had a working customer service email address at their website, I wrote them, inquiring about the USS Boston CAG kit being reissued. At the time, they had that SSP program going where they were reissuing a dozen kits a year, in the old style boxes. The response was 'They had no plans of releasing that kit in the foreseeable future.' >> No news on actually when all this is going to happen but its remarkable news considering how we gave up on the Norton Sound ever seeing the light of day. << Unfortunately, I think the long wait continues. Maybe if enough wholesalers/retailers at the show expressed interest, they would bring those kits back (if they even still have or can locate the molds!) Suggest you go to the RC page of the message boards and search for Type 7 conversions - to which I might point out that there are custom made WTC ready to drop into to the type 7. By the way, if this is your first go at a fully ballasted RC sub, you have started with a fairly difficult animal. Its very small, (which you would know), but this adds to its complexity of WTC / WT spaces. Good luck and if you get really stuck drop me an e-mail. I am in Sydney.
