Is there someone amongst you that have it, and would be willing to make a couple of photocopies, or even better scans from the plans in it? I'm searching in particular for the "body plan" which shows the transverse hull shapes. Currently I have started a build-up of the 1350 Iron Shipwright kit of the Tribal, and found that the hull shape needs some drastic improvement, especially near the bow (too little flare in particular), and that the bilges near the quarterdeck are too bulgy. Thanks for your help in advance! Maarten Schönfeld The Netherlands ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From "starfleetline" Subject Re: USN SSN-21/22 Sea Wolf Attack Class Submarine kits This is based PURELY on the build-up on their site...The Bronco despite it's apparent equine heritage lays more in the canine family. If Trumpeter's larger offering is a dog then Bronco's must be son of a dog...a pup! (Are we talking Panto here?) Anyway it seems to contain all the faults of it's larger parent and a new one. From the bow - Strange blunt sonar dome shape - Torpedo tube doors in wrong position - Diving planes in wrong position - Cuff on fin too large - Sonar active window too prominent - Safety track does not go along top of deployed array housing (that's LA class boats)Here they differed from Trumpeter, Trumpeter had it in the right place but badly represented, Bronco vice-versa! - Escape trunks incorrect in representation. - Pump jet...too hard to see what sins they have comitted there, though in that case it is partially excuseable (Secret & all!) Guess everything is fixable but inexcuseable for a new kit, as was Trumpeters dog. The most accurate is Yankee's but it too has problems (but not as many and was produced BEFORE SSN-21 hit the water!) Go figure! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) From jrsheridan@earthlink.net Subject USN SSN-21/22 Sea Wolf Attack Class Submarine kits I looked at the photos of the Seawolf kit on the Bronce models website. It looks to me that they pantographed the Trumpeter kit since they make the same mistakes with the shape of the bow and the sail. Its funny since there are accurate drawings for the Seawolf class SSN but for some reason they chose to make-up a work of fiction rather than render an accurate model. When at sea, they effectively were out of radio contact. The kit in question (if, as I believe, is from the old Blue Water Navy molds) has some inaccuracies you might want to address Lothar von Arnauld de la Periere's U-35 did not have an after 10.5cm gun (forward only); the engines hump is too small in the kit; you need to add spreader bars to the antenna. That's all I remember without looking up the old build article I wrote for the now defunct Navis Magazine. Regards, Ken Goldman ----- Original Message ----- From hwimmer@bellsouth.net Subject [SMML] U-35 question Greetings all. I am presently working on the YMW 350 scale SMS U-35. Instructions show the installation of radio masts fore and aft on the starboard side. Indeed, most photos of U-boats of WWI show these. Would these radio masts be erected during operations? Further, photos of U-35, taken on board during a Med cruise does not show them erected. Were they collapseable? How were they stowed? Not being a submariner, it would seem to me that they would tower well above the periscope of a boat operating at periscope depth. I wouldn't think that would be desireable.
