According to "British Destroyers" by Edgar J March, ALL the late wartime emergency classes of destroyer were based upon the hulls, of the "S" class, the engines and boilers of the "J" class, and were all of very similar layout. "Destroyer Weapons of WW 2" by the late Peter Hodges and Norman Friedman, tell the same story with only minor equipment changes to be found. The armament of the 4.5" CP Mark V Gun Mounting was standard, and with care, I can provide details of the differing gunnery directors fitted. The mark IV Depth Charge thrower was standard and I have drawn all the required secondary armament, (Mark VII pom poms, or twin 40mm Bofors Mark IV (Hazemeyer) Mounting with the single 40mm or 20mm Oerlikons) as required. My set of drawings for the "CA" class provide the basic General Arrangement for the late wartime classes, apart from the impressive "Battles" and "Weapon" classes which arrived on the scene mostly after hostilities ended. Thus with some care a set of plans can be obtained. The hull dimensions were the same. On looking through my "List of ships to draw one day" (When Time Permits) I have a set of drawings for HMS Venus of the Emergency "V" Class. I'm still drawing in my spare time, and I have been concentrating on WWI Trawler and Drifter types. Another new subject is a WWI TBD HMS Telemachus, as modified for minelaying. (Much done, but more to do)! The only down part is that I have been obliged to increase my prices a tad for the first time in over 5 years, due to the increase in postal and printing costs. I have recently completed new Fairmile "B", and "D", subjects (details) and just yesterday I received a new set of Faimile "B" Motor Launch drawings for post war modifications to a 1960's influence Minesweeper. All Marked "Secret". To redraw as time permits. See my web site www.lambert-plans.com Yours "Aye" John ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) From: David Wells Subject: All those wonderful colours - but which? Hi Allan. > 2) HMS Exeter early 1942. I have a picture allegedly from the day > before her sinking, and the holes in the hull indicate damage. Appears > to be a single shade of grey, but which? Semtex/Corticene/steel/teak, where? I'm guessing AP507B. I recall reading somewhere that she was the "medium" grey. > 3) USS Hoggatt Bay CVE75. Shipcamouflage.com says 33/18A, I see a > couple of pictures of her in disruptive paint, but they aren't really > clear. I can't find any diagrams of 33/18A (Floating Drydock, > shipcamouflage.com). A search for 33/18A finds a picture of Lunga Point > allegedly in that measure, starboard side, but it does not match the > pictures of HB's starboard. So, any confirmation as to the measure? > Any pointers to a source for a diagram of whatever it is? Now what Casablanca class kit did you buy? Yes, I do want a review, but I'm interested in Casablanca kits, since my GF's father served on the USS Attu. (CVE-102) I might be willing to go with 1/700, since my eyes still work, and I do have a magnifying glass around. (and I'm not going to put out the big bucks for a 1/350!) May I repost it on LinersList@yahoogroups.com, or better yet will you? That is another group that I can recommend to you, Cap'n Randy, and anyone else interested in Ocean Liners in all their various forms. -John Emery Cedar Hill, Texas ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) From: MicroGee@aol.com Subject: Re Farmile D >>>In a message dated 4/29/2006 24903 PM Eastern Daylight Time, lambert.plans@btinternet.com writes(When Time Permits) I'm still drawing in my spare time, and I have been concentrating on WWI Trawler and Drifter types. I have recently completed new Fairmile "B", and "D", subjects (details) <<< Hi John, I can't say that I like the present SMML arrangement, and I hope it is a temporary thing, as it's very difficult to get things in perspective. Here's hoping that Shane and Lorna can find a solution soon. Picked up on your posting (almost nearly deleted it) due to some key words popping up. My current hull project is a Fairmile "D" type, rather impressive with its variety of gear and weaponry, (few of which I'd care to scratchbuild) and I should have a good hull out by year's end. Hopefully, it'll be as good a seller as my type 100 schnellboot has been. I'd be interested in hearing about the new Fairmile "D" stuff you've completed, in the hopes of "nicking" them off---. Just joking. I recently picked up the Anatomy of the ship re-issue, which allowed me to return Al's copy, which I'd confiscated some years back. The confession here is that the book probably spent more time in my hands than those of Mr. Ross---. I trust that all is well in merrie auld England, that your health is holding up, and that the pub proprietors haven't all shut you off and locked you out---. It was quite an active forum and I had actually met some maritime modellers through this medium. One person I am trying to track down is Michael Dembinski of Warsaw, Poland who's father-in-law served on the Polish MGB 'S-2'. Does anyone on this list know of Michael and can put me in touch with him, either via e-mail or phone. I've tried International phone enquiries and it seems he may have an unlisted phone number. Thankyou, Roger Pearson. Bendigo, Australia. There are a few maritime modellers on ARC. http//www.arcforums.com/forums/index.php Matt Roger Pearson wrote > Greetings to all, > > I note with a great deal of disappointment the axing of the Airfix > Forum. Let us re-establish a group of Airfix enthusiasts and get ahead .. Einar Kr. Holtet Oslo ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) From: "Joe Hinds" Subject: Re Airfix Forum Howdy Amigo, I agree with you and everybody else. This format for the old SMML newsletter really sucks. It is so limited as to be close to useless. Good luck on your search for the MGB-2 crew member.
