USS Wasp - CV-7
By: Falk Pletscher
I
scratchbuilt this model back in 1991 using a plan from The Floating Drydock
which I scaled down to 1/700. The plan contained the outlines of each deck which
I cut from plastic sheet and thus built a framework for the hull by adding vertical
supports. I then filled the gaps with body putty and sanded the hull to shape.
The hangar atop the hull and the island are made from plastic sheet, while the
deck is made from Evergreen "v-groove" plastic. The crane and the CXAM-1 antenna
are from stretched sprue.
The 20mm Oerlikons are scratchbuilt with the shields cut from Evergreen .010
x .060 strip, gun barrels of stretched sprue and ammunition drums of .025 rod.
Aircraft were refined with wheels cut from .035 rod and propellor blades cut
from a .010 x .060 strip.
The ladders at each side of the funnel are the only photoetch used.
