USS Constitution
Photos and text contributed by Joel Labow
Photos are courtesy of the USN Public Affairs Dept

The Frigate Constitution was launched in 1797 and is still in comission with the USN. In fact she is still carried on the Navy list as a commissioned vessel. Her official designation is USS Constitution (IX-21).

Several years ago upon completion of her most recent overhaul and in celebration of her 200th birthday the US Navy got her underway from her usual berth in Charlestown Navy Yard in Boston, Massachusetts and towed her to the waters off Marblehead. There she sailed for several hours under "fighting sail" of topsails and jib. I though that many listmembers might enjoy these photos in light of the recent discussion on the list.
