Sovremenny Class Destroyers
By: John Rich
This first release of a range of waterslide decals is set to cover the current
Trumpeter kits of the Soviet Project 956 or Sovremenny Class destroyers.
Tim Perry and co at Kipperboxes have done the homework and have printed, from
their own artwork, ships names in the correct Cyrillic typeface. This will put
right the unfortunate oversight that the Trumpeter kits decal sets use a font
based on the 'Arial' western design.
On close examination, I must say - with a magnifying glass, the print on these
sets looks great and a side by side comparison will really highlight the differences
to the kit set. These decals will certainly enhance the level of detail the
enthusiast modeler will wish to achieve with a project like this and are available
in gold, red / yellow, white, a spare is included in case of mishaps.

Produced using an OKI printer onto Decalfix Blue waterslide paper you must
cut each decal from its neighbour, the paper is pre-coated with a gloss varnish.
The decal itself is very thin and therefore quite fragile, carefull handling
is required. Microsol and Microset can be used to great advantage but when overcoating
or sealing the recommendation is to test first on an offcut of decal film to
avoid disaster.
Conclusion
To sum up, whatever scale you choose, the Kipperboxes Ships Names for Sovremenny
class decals will really add authenticity and realism to what is a fine range
of kits from Trumpeter.
Many thanks to Kipperboxes for the
